Meeting Minutes
July 12, 2016
Meeting was called to order at 7:30am. Vicci Rudin led the flag salute.
Guests: Vicci Rudin, Chris Abrass, Ed Thompson and Judith Morris.
John red the purpose of PABA and then introduced two of the newest four members: Mathew Rainwater, Border Patrol Agent, “Pennies for Quarters” a program to find housing for homeless veterans. Dave Neupert, Past Chamber President, retired attorney, judge Pro Tem and running for Superior County Judge with an interest in establishing a Veterans Court.
Minutes:
Edna Petersen moved and Sam Phillips seconded approval of the minutes for June 21, June 28 and Board Minutes for July 11. Motion carried.
Announcements:
Governmental Affairs meeting is today.
Edna announced the 4th of July celebration was a roaring success. She said it was another example of a 4-way collaborative event. When 50 to 60 kids were expected and 500 – 6oo show up!!! All other events were overwhelmed with more than expected participants.
George Bergner – Chair of the Pier Parking Problem Sub-Committee reviewed the current survey on the use of the lot. Many were surprised how and when the lot was used. He asked for help in letting the City know what would happen if the lot was taken away.
Andrew May announced his annual corn roast or as it is called, “The Party of the Year”, on Sunday August 7, from noon to midnight.
Carol Johnson said past Port Angeles resident Harriet Buchman, age 91, passed away at her daughter’s home in Texas.
Program
Andrew May said, “Beauty is the program of the day”, and the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center helps to improve and spread that beauty. Chris Abrass and Vicci Ruden, from the Fine Arts Center, explained the reorganization and restructuring of the Center, and while the City is phasing out funding, it is still backing the Center.
Other changes occurring are:
- Status of the Esther Webster Foundation
- Updating of operating system
- Appealing to younger crowd
- New lighting, painting and parking lot entrance
Vicci said new board members are always welcome.
Paint the Peninsula, a juried event, is expected to bring artists from the area, the state, and the rest of the country, Canada, and elsewhere. People will have a chance to watch 99 artists, who with quick brush strokes, will attempt to catch a mood and lighting of the moment. The artists final works will be judged and then put up for sale. Proceeds of the sale will go to the artists and to the Center. The Center is still looking for hosts, sponsors and buyers.
Q & A Period
Can a person request a place to be featured? Has the outdoor sculpture garden been updated? Will the “Art in Bloom – A Mother’s Day Event” be continued? When will the Reservoir be painted? (When there is enough money for the paint.)
