Vice President Phil Kitchel called the meeting to order at 7:30am. Present were Board members: John Brewer, George, Harry, Bill, Phil, Edna and Kaj. Guest was Jack Glaubert.
President John Brewer said he had reviewed the budget with Treasurer, Jon Fager, and they have eliminated $600 allocated for IRS liability.
Kaj brought up the possibility of PABA’s membership in two business related organizations. First was the Association of Washington Businesses. Dues are $400 per year, only one person is allowed as a representative. That person could belong to as many committees as they wanted. Harry said he felt they were well organized and would discuss many important issues during the legislative session. The second organization is the Washington Business Alliance. Membership dues are $250 per year, but individuals can become members on their own for $100. Organizations are not limited to just one representative. Two issues before them this year are Career Path Education and Low Carbon Emissions. Edna moved and Harry seconded that PABA purchase a membership in the Alliance. Motion carried.
John Brewer said he felt that the Governmental Affairs Committee had many important things to offer and suggested that the committee hold its meetings at the regular business meetings. Edna moved and John Brewer seconded that the Governmental Affair Committee move its meeting to the third Tuesday. Motion carried.
Other items discussed were on the West End Business Association, Program on Fluoridation and the website.
Edna suggested the community have a big welcome home event for the return of the Coho. She made a motion and Kaj seconded that PABA work with Revitalize PA in sponsoring an event. Motion carried.
Edna suggested that there be a regular membership committee to spearhead a campaign to let the public, businesses and retirees know what PABA has to offer and what was in it for them.
George announced the State has freed up some funds to be used to continue work on the Discovery Trail from Jefferson County Airport to the Clallam County line.
A lively discussion ensued about the Sales Tax issue.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30am.
