Meeting Minutes

March 5, 2019

Meeting was called to order by Carol Johnson at 7:37am. Laura A. led the flag salute.

Thought of the Day:

Peggy gave a “100 years ago” history moment.

Minutes:

Kaj moved to accept Feb 26th meeting minutes, seconded by Jim M. Motion carried.

Guests:

Doreen Hunter, Brad Griffith from Sequim MakerSpace, Mark Lane.

New member Mandy Treadway spoke out her position with Aflac.

Announcements:

Peggy announced the Kiwanis annual dinner on April 6th benefiting Camp Beausite.

Doreen H. talked about Clallam Special Needs Housing and the care providers co-op. They have a meeting at the PA Library tonight at 6:30pm and in Sequim on the 26th.

Sam P. was asked about the fire at the Rayonier dock this morning and he did not know the cause but provided water tenders.

Program:  General PABA Business Meeting

Jon F. gave the treasurer’s report. Kaj pointed out that to break even we need 90 members. Carol said the budget is not balanced to the number of members and the organization doesn’t have major expenses. It is fairly easy to control. At the next board meeting there will be discussion about reaching out to new members and we have a savings account for reserves.

Discussion followed about how to increase members, the weather slowing progress, making personal contacts, and speaking to other civic organizations. Brad G. said membership is down in many clubs. We have no counterpart in Sequim and bylaws state PABA serves the greater Port Angeles area. Rob O, said Sequin is always looking for presenters.

Carol announced there is no meeting next week due to the joint Chamber of Commerce meeting featuring Nathan West.

Jim M. said he does not have to register as a lobbyist because he takes no salary and no expenses are paid by PABA in his role as chair of Government Affairs Committee. The next meeting is the 19th. He talked about DNR testimony and how state-owned timber affects the budget. March 20th the state revenue forecast will be released. He talked about the housing presentation to city council and that members could help him by sending him any relevant news articles about issues affecting our area.

Upcoming Meeting:

March 19: Karen Goshen, Port of Port Angeles

Meeting adjourned at 8:35am.
